New Trailer for Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave"
One of my favorite directors, Steve Mcqueen, has a new film coming out this October. Following "Hunger" and "Shame", I'm looking forward to see what this "thinking man's" director has for my mind. "12 Years a Slave" is based on a true story in which a free man is abducted from New York and sold in to slavery in the south.
The film has an all star cast which includes: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Alfree Woodard, Paul Giamatti, Quvenzhané Wallis and more! From the trailer you can see this is no stylized, fantastical "Django" look at slavery but a grounded in bleak reality vision of a true story. The trailer is moving, and I can't wait to see this film.
New Trailer for Spike Lee's "Oldboy"
If you haven't seen the original Korean film "Oldboy" you definitely should! Of course, you all have heard my gripes before about how most Americans don't like to read subtitles. Again, you're missing out on great cinema and storytelling when you don't view foreign films. Whether you catch up with an old friend, or see the original for the first time it would be good to get on it because an American re-imagining of the film is coming out October 25 this year. This new vision is from the mind of the master himself, Spike Lee.
Now, I admit, I hate re-makes because I feel there is a reason that the film is being re-made which is... because the original did so well. However, when placed in the hands of an amazing director...I generally like seeing where they take the film. "Oldboy" is a gritty, visceral tale and it seems like the material was put in the right hands for someone to re-tell it. Spike is the reason I even thought it was possible for me to direct films and I've admired his work for a long time. So I look forward to seeing what he's cooked up! Anyone want to place a bet on where the signature dolly shot will be?
"The Best Man Holiday" trailers
Malcolm D. Lee undoubtedly has a thing for ensemble films with 8/9 of his directed titles having major characters of four or more. Perhaps one of his best and more fondly thought of works is "The Best Man". Nearly fifteen years later, the cast is back at it again for "The Best Man Holiday" and it looks like the film will be a hit.
It's always cool when a film can be revisited and hold together well. Let's hope it holds together as well as the cast has, because if you compare images from TBM (1999) and TBMH (2013) folks have been in the gym and taking care of themselves! lol.
"The Best Man Holiday" hits theaters later this year in time for Thanksgiving, Nov. 15. Check out the TV Spot and teaser trailer below.
