Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 85- Manic, A Sibling Mystery, Clara's Ultimate Christmas & Pinsky
Happy Friday my peoples! The full line up for the 2nd annual 2018 DC Black Film Festival is up at http://dcbff.org/2018schedule/! Make sure you check it out to find out the films that you can see August 16-18th in Southeast DC at the Miracle Theatre!
Today’s episode is a little manic in a variety of ways. First, I talk with Kalina Bertin, the director/producer of the documentary Manic. It's a film in which she struggles to make sense of the legacy of mental illness wreaking havoc over her siblings’ lives. Then I have an interview with Rachel Wortell, the co-writer/director of the comedy/mystery A Sibling Mystery. The zany thing about our interview is that Rachel was outside when we recorded so the radio and podcast episode is alive w/ the sound of nature! :) Then I talk with Emily Aguilar and Faith Deveaux of the film Clara’s Ultimate Christmas. The only thing manic about that interview is how quickly we had to get everything in...so there are a couple times I had to edit out us talking over each other...but it’s a great interview. Finally, I talk with Amanda Lundquist, writer/director of Pinsky. What's wild there was how much fun we had talking about making a film w/ a predominately female above the line crew. In fact, it was great talking to all of these women in film!

Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 84- Eighth Grade, All These Small Moments, Bias, & The Judge
Happy Friday folks! "Eighth Grade" hits theaters this weekend and I have Picture Lock contributor Richie Wenzler on to give his thoughts on the film. So in the spirit of middle school awkwardness and judging, I have a great line up of interviews for you on the show. I talk with the hilarious Melissa Miller-Costanzo of “All These Small Moments”. We talk about our love for people to be quiet and leave us alone during movies, but more importantly the well received film. I also talk with producer/director Robin Hauser about her documentary film “Bias”. In the film, she puts her own biases on display to explore the nature of implicit bias. Finally, I speak w/ Erika Cohn, producer/director of “The Judge”. The film explores revolves around the first woman appointed to a Shari'a court in the Middle East, whose career provides rare insights into both Islamic law and gendered justice. Plus I've got your answers to the Picture Lock question of the week two weeks ago after missing last week!

Happy Friday folks! This week on the show, I have producer/director/writer/actor Jamie Burton-Oare on to talk about her new film Soulful Steps, which covers one couple's love for soul line dancing which led them to create CaliJam, the biggest soul line dance convention on the West Coast. If you live in the DMV area, you can check out the film this Sunday, July 1st at AFI Silver in Silver Spring. I also talk with Darya Zhuk, co-writer/director of Crystal Swan. The film, set in 1996, covers one young woman’s journey to be a professional DJ in the United States despite being derailed by a typo in a forged US Visa that sends her to a backwater small town. For my international listeners, you can see the film this weekend at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic. Finally, I have writer/director/producer Galia Barkol of the film Mia which she starred in. We talk about how life in Israel prompted her to write, direct and star in the film. Plus, The Predator trailer reaction and Picture Lock's question of the week!
