Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 70- The Rape of Recy Taylor, Pas Honteux, & Butterfly Kisses

Happy Friday people! I've got an episode that's going to keep on giving this week. I have writer/director of The Rape of Recy Taylor, Nancy Buirski; John “Dr. Teeth” Tucker, Director of Pas Honteux, and Erik Kristopher Myers, director of Butterfly Kisses. You can catch Butterfly Kisses tonight (as this releases March 23) at the Annapolis Film Festival, so pay attention to those details. These were great interviews from directors of fantastic films. But wait, there's more!  As podcast subscribers (thank you!) I'll be releasing the full unlocked versions of my interview with John and Erik as we spoke for longer than the radio would allow! So be sure to look out for those.

Don't forget the 2018 DC Black Film Festival call for entries is now open! The festival will be held August 16-18 at the Miracle Theatre in Southeast Washington, DC. Filmmakers can submit through FilmFreeway. Visit dcbff.org for more details!

Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 65- Black Panther & The Rainbow Experiment

This weekend, Black Panther (my review is linked) is going to demolish the box office. I’ve been holding in my thoughts on the film since I saw it last Friday and I can’t wait to share them with you soon on air.  Today’s show is front loaded with Black Panther to help you get pumped for seeing the film this weekend. I’ve got an interview with the film’s star, Chadwick Boseman. Then I talk with the legendary costume designer Ruth Carter who did the costumes for this film. We had a one on one conversation that was absolutely awesome. After my one on one with Ruth you’ll be able to hear the round table Q&A I sat in with Ruth and Producer of Black Panther, Nate Moore. Now, after you check out Black Panther in theaters this weekend, if you live in the DC area you may be interested in seeing The Rainbow Experiment at the DC Independent Film Festival. I talked with Christina Kallas, the writer/director of the film, and After the break, stay tuned to hear what she had to say on her approach to multi-perspective filmmaking. It’s a full episode folks!

That's a wrap for the 2018 Rosebud Film Festival! I'm zapped, but it was a fun time at the movies and beyond this past weekend. So I'm a little late in posting this, but I wanted to get it up as soon as I could.

Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 62- 2018 Rosebud Film Festival pt. 2

Hey folks! The Rosebud Film Festival is hitting DC and Arlington, VA next week, January 26-28th. Be sure to go to rosebudfestival.org to get information on tickets and the films we’ll be screening. I’m keeping the Rosebud themed interviews going this week and beyond. This week on the show should be very motivational to indie filmmakers and anyone who has had a dream. As I was cutting together this particular episode there was this theme of turning a passion into something real, and using the art of film as a way to bring about healing. I have the director of Aimee, Lee Whitaker; director of the video series She’s Got Grit, Dara Padwo-Audick, director of Trumps Got No Tact, Callison Slater; and no stranger to Picture Lock, Chad Eric Smith, director of Rumination, all on to talk about their films. Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 60: Coco, The Last Jedi, This Christmas, Almost Christmas

Folks it’s my favorite time of year! Christmas! So happy holidays. Whatever you celebrate, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah ...may your holidays be filled with love, family, friends, and some good food. I wanted to put together a holiday episode of Picture Lock and I figured, what better a way to do it then to call on some of my family members. So this episode will give you a feel for films you can go see with your family while you’re on break in the theaters or from the comfort of your own home.

I’ve got Ella and KJ (my kids) to come on and talk about Pixar’s Coco, which is still holding strong in the box office. They also interviewed two of the film's stars...I’m trying to train 'em young! I also talk w/ my brother Mike S., who you may remember from the last episode. We talk about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And for the first time ever, I convinced my wife, Alexandra, to come on the show. We talk about This Christmas, Almost Christmas, and The Best Man Holiday

Picture Lock Radio: Ep. 59- Mike S., Beats, and Movies

I've got one of the most fun episodes I've recorded to date. Simply because over the Thanksgiving break I was able to spend some time with family, and interview my brother, Mikhael Sampson, for the first time ever! If you’re a listener of the radio show and podcast you know that I always give him a shoutout at the end of the show for providing the music. It’s no surprise that if I’m such a huge lover of film, he must be too, although on a smaller scale, but you can hear it in the music he creates. We’ll talk about his career as a music producer and listen to some of the tracks that he’s sampled from movie scores...and if you’re a fan of Stranger Things, you’ll get the exclusive listen to his latest track, The Return!
