Happy holidays folks! The new season of Lost In Space finds the Robinsons several months after season one’s final episode ended. They’re stranded on a planet with what seems like no way out. Impossible situations that take intelligence, courage, and the love of family seems to be the norm for the Robinsons this season. Today I talk with co-director and editor of the documentary The Commons, Suki Hawley. The documentary covers students at UNC’s flagship campus in Chapel Hill as they take to the commons to demand the removal of “Silent Sam,” a Jim-Crow-era Confederate statue. With the specter of the Charlottesville tragedy hanging thick in the air, the confrontation takes on a life of its own. I also talk with the director of SXSW Film, Janet Pierson. Janet and I talk about what you can expect to see at this year’s Film Festival and how to best navigate it!

Jenna is the director of Lez Bomb, a hilarious new comedy about coming home and coming out. We talk about the origins of her creating the film and what Afrofuturism is. Finally, I talk with director Suzi Yoonessi about her film Unlovable. I had the pleasure of seeing the film and you can too next week, Nov. 2nd as it has a limited release in theaters!

This unlocked episode features my full conversation with John “Dr. Teeth” Tucker. John is a legend in hip hop music videos and has continued to evolve his career into narrative film now. “Pas Honteux” is his first venture into the scene and it’s a memorable entre. In this full interview, we dive deeper into his time directing music videos and capturing an era and culture of southern hip-hop and how that helped him be a visual storyteller. We also dig deeper into Pas Honteux. If you’re a listener that's never heard of “Dr. Teeth”, go google him, catch up and enjoy.
